Panel includes:


Isabel Hilton, Chair: Editor, chinadialogue.net, journalist, Guardian columnist and former editor of Open Democracy.

Jasper Becker (UPDATE: Just booked): Author and Journalist who spent two decades as a foreign correspondent in China for titles including the South China Morning post.

Oliver August: Correspondent and editor at The Economist, former Times Beijing bureau chief and author of Inside the Red Mansion.

Mayling Birney: Lecturer and assistant professor at the London School of Economics; currently writing a book on how China limits the unwanted effects of its own political reforms and stabilises authoritarian rule.

Dr Xiaobing Wang: Lecturer in economics at the University of Manchester. Before leaving China he was a corporate law consultant. He is currently conducting empirical work on the welfare of rural residents in China alongside a range of other areas.

Dr Kerry Brown (UPDATE Q&A session only): Foreign office first secretary to China, 2000-2003. Head of the Asia Programme at Chatham House.

 

Drinks will be available at the Frontline bar from 7.15pm, where you are welcome to join us after the event. Panel discussion begins upstairs at 7.45pm, and dinner is available either before or after the event in the Frontline Club restaurant.
